He completed advanced training in diabetes under Professors John Turtle and Dennis Yue, and studied metabolism and obesity under Professor Ian Caterson. He holds a PhD in molecular endocrinology from the University of Sydney, where he developed a transgenic mouse model to study follicle-stimulating hormone in spermatogenesis. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and teaches at the University of Sydney, UNSW, and UWS.
