I left feeling incredibly disappointed with the care I received for my IBS. My symptoms were repeatedly dismissed, and I felt gaslighted into believing there was little that could be done beyond following a low FODMAP diet. Instead of feeling supported, I left appointments feeling unheard and without a clear management plan.
Ironically, I feel I’ve learnt more about living with and managing IBS from patient support groups on Facebook than I ever did during my appointments. While social media should never replace specialist care, it was the only place I found practical advice and validation.
Patients with chronic conditions deserve to be listened to, taken seriously, and treated with compassion. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.
