He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2005. He undertook a brain tumour fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard University in Boston, USA, and a paediatric neurosurgery fellowship at Necker Hospital for Children in Paris, France. He also holds a PhD in the molecular biology of brain tumours from the University of Melbourne and is currently Head of the Brain Tumour and Epilepsy Laboratory at the University of Melbourne.
